Collaboration server
Effective and secure collaboration is critical for all successful R&D projects . During 2005, Cenamps will be implementing a web-based knowledge and project management collaboration server to better connect R&D project team members. Cenamps' collaboration server will be available to regional clients, industrial partners and universities engaged in regional or international R&D activities. We are also working with the DTI to implement a UK wide collaboration solution to connect active stakeholders engaged in high-tech knowledge transfer activities.
To optimise time-to-market many firms are outsourcing components of their R&D to partners such as contract research companies, university research bases, suppliers and even competitors. Governments are also increasingly targeting funding at R&D projects that are driven by a consortium of academic and industry partners.
Cenamps is presently establishing a secure online collaboration server that can be used by R&D project teams, particularly on projects actively supported by Cenamps.
The capabilities of the server will include:
- Secure re-configurable project workspaces, with document level security. Users will only be made aware of the existence of project workspaces and documents that they have specific authorisation to access
- Multiple workspaces for programmes, for example, workspaces for sub-contractors, sub-projects and related projects
- Personalised home page, from where each user will be able to link to project workspaces they are participating in and receive personalised alerts
- Opportunity to brand project workspaces to reflect the brand of your programme, project or organisation
- Online project folders that you can reconfigure to project needs, with the ability to store multimedia documents, including digital assets such as images and video
- Document sharing and management with version control, the ability to track changes made and to lock documents
- Other features include search engines, project dash-boards, team calendars, activities, risk management tool and threaded discussions
Department of Trade & Industry
We are also working with the UK Department of Trade & Industry (DTI), to establish a collaboration server for the wider UK R&D community. This server will be available through the DTI's Global Watch Knowledge Transfer Networks and Online Forums including the Fuel Cells Forum, UK MNT Network and Advanced Materials Forum.
Cenamps evaluated the DTI's collaboration server during 2003, in conjunction with the Teesside Centre for Nanotechnology & Microfabrication. The outcome of the evaluation generated a set of recommendations on administration and system requirements, which now form the basis for configuring the DTI's collaboration server.
