The future of healthcare is changing. Cenamps is leading the way in innovative healthcare technology research, development and commercialisation within the North East of England through its active engagement with a number of regional and European projects. These projects are exploring ways to develop and apply new bio-nano and micro info technologies, which will ultimately transform healthcare services.

Three critical areas within healthcare, diagnostics and therapeutics lend themselves to nanoscale science and technology solutions: biocompatible materials, drug delivery systems and early detection of disease. This convergence of the physical and

biological sciences at the nanoscale is expected to revolutionise medicine and healthcare, improving the quality of and extending human life.

Strengthening the capacity and capability for stimulating further innovations in emerging small-scale healthcare technologies forms part of Cenamps’ strategic technology footprint. Cenamps recognises that the focus of healthcare will move increasingly out of the hospital and back to clinics, to doctors' offices, and even into schools, workplaces and the home, with healthcare becoming increasingly pervasive. The focus will change, as well, away from intervening in the acute phase of the disease towards prevention, early stage detection and treatment.

An important factor in enabling the successful uptake of future healthcare services or technologies is that organisations must connect R&D at an early stage to clearly identified patient needs – including medical, social and lifestyle.

Cenamps has established strong, demonstrable capabilities in helping companies and consortia to source and access R&D funding including EU framework programme, DTI collaborative R&D funds, and other government and private sources.
