Who we are
Cenamps is an entrepreneurial, not-for-profit company established by One NorthEast, the regional development agency, as a vital component of the Strategy for Success initiative. We also receive funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Objective 2 programme. Operating internationally, we stimulate innovation in the North East of England, with the aim of further strengthening the region’s economic foundation, R&D capabilities and performance through the creation of high-tech jobs and new business opportunities.
We work closely with entrepreneurs and industry leaders, academia and government bodies on selected engagements that align with our vision & values and our strategy.
In collaboration with One NorthEast and other national stakeholders we have evolved our technology footprint to embrace emerging technologies in:
- Ambient intelligence for smart work, home and community environments
- Consumer products that enhance the quality of everyday life
- Nanomedicine for preventative healthcare diagnostics and treatment
As part of our activities, we have initiated and established a number of key technology programmes to further connect the region’s research base with industry.
Our programmes are designed to:
- Offer clients specific innovation services and over time, establish a set of platform technologies
- Strengthen the region’s research and development capacity and related commercialisation performance
- Establish open access to state-of-the-art R&D facilities that can be used by industry and researchers
- Mitigate and reduce risk associated with innovating new products and processes incorporating emerging technologies
- Stimulate new collaborative market-driven R&D projects that yield real commercial opportunities and outcomes
- Enhance the region’s international recognition for world-class innovation

We work with a broad range of clients and partners including investors, large corporations, medium sized companies, small business, start-ups and spin-outs, universities, research institutions and government bodies.
Our board of directors is composed of stakeholders from government, regional universities and industry.
